Marimba artist Greg Giannascoli has been named a winner of the 2001 Artist International Young Artist Competition and will make his New York City debut solo recital on June 22, 2002 at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall. He will be awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in May 2002. His principal teacher at Rutgers was William Moersch. He is a music faculty member at Rowan University in New Jersey, where he earned his B.M. degree. He received a Master of Music from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Giannascoli has performed widely in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. His performances have been presented on CBC and NPR Radio and on PBS television. He is often asked to play premier performances of works for marimba and xylophone. A frequent competition winner, he has won the 1997 Patrons of Wisdom International Young Artist Competition in Toronto, a grant from the Philadelphia Music Foundation, the Aronfreed Scholarship competition, the National Music Teachers Association Collegiate Artist Competition, the Montpelier Cultural Arts Society Recital Competition, and the South Orange Symphony, Rowan University, Rutgers University, and Virginia Commonwealth University concerto competitions.
